If someone is hungry better leave reading this article for this moment :). Why I said that?

Usually in math textbooks fractions are explained using PIZZA example. :)

Should I do the same...

So, we imagine ONE pizza in front of us. Then we cut it to pieces. Let's say 2 pieces of the same size.

If you share this pizza with your friend, you will take one piece or ONE HALF of the pizza.

We write ONE HALF as

1/2.

Your friend took another piece which is again 1/2 of the pizza.

Therefore,

1/2 + 1/2 = 1.

On the other hand, if we cut our pizza to 3

pieces of the same size and you take one piece, this is 1/3 of the pizza. If you take two pieces, this will be 2/3 of the pizza. Therefore,

1/3 + 1/3 = 2/3 and

1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 = 1.

You can regonize a "pattern" now. If we have four equal pieces it will be

1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 = 1,

and so on.
